Volume, Bid/Ask & Delta

Volume · Volume on the Chart · Bid Ask · Delta · Cumulative Delta / CVD · Bars Volume Filter

Volume

What it is: Vertical volume — total contracts or shares traded in each bar; the basic activity meter. What to look for: Rising volume with rising price shows participation; rising volume with falling price shows selling pressure; thin volume at extremes suggests weaker conviction; spikes at breakouts or reversals are attention points, not automatic entries. Settings that matter: Use a panel below price, choose session or visible-range scaling where available, and keep colors simple. Common mistake: Reading a volume spike as a signal by itself. Pairs well with: Delta, Bid Ask, Cluster Statistic.

Volume on the Chart

What it is: Volume drawn on or against the price pane so you can see activity without relying only on a lower panel. What to look for: High-volume bars at breakout levels, high volume that fails to push price, and quiet volume during drift. Settings that matter: Use enough opacity to keep candles readable and filter noise if the feed is busy. Common mistake: Covering candles with a heavy histogram. Pairs well with: Volume panel, Delta, Maximum Levels.

Bid Ask

What it is: Splits volume into market buys traded at ask and market sells traded at bid. It shows aggression, not limit book size. What to look for: Strong ask volume into highs, strong bid volume into lows, one side dominant for several bars, and price higher while ask volume fades. Settings that matter: Use clear buy-versus-sell colors and the same session as your delta tools. Common mistake: Treating Bid Ask like pending orders in the DOM. Pairs well with: Delta, Cumulative Delta, Order Flow, Big Trades.

Delta

What it is: Delta equals market buys minus market sells for the bar or period. Positive delta means more aggressive buying; negative delta means more aggressive selling. What to look for: Positive delta with higher highs, negative delta with lower lows, price and delta divergence, and large delta bars at session opens or news. Settings that matter: Choose bar delta or other modes your build offers, use colors you can read quickly, and do not over-smooth raw aggression. Common mistake: “Positive delta = always long.” Pairs well with: Bid Ask, Cumulative Delta, Volume, Cluster Statistic, Footprint.

Cumulative Delta / CVD

What it is: A running sum of delta from a session or chosen range, showing whether aggressive buy or sell pressure is building over time. What to look for: CVD rising with price, new price highs with flat or lower CVD, new price lows with flat or higher CVD, and sharp CVD turns confirmed by volume. Settings that matter: Use a consistent reset rule and know when the cumulative window starts. Common mistake: Changing the reset constantly and comparing lines with different starts. Pairs well with: Delta, Volume, Market Profile and session levels.

Bars Volume Filter

What it is: Highlights or filters bars by a volume threshold so high-activity or low-activity bars stand out. What to look for: Bars above the filter at breakouts or stops, clusters of high-volume bars at a price zone, and low-volume bars during quiet periods. Settings that matter: Calibrate thresholds to the instrument and timeframe. Common mistake: Using one filter for every symbol and session. Pairs well with: Volume, Delta, Big Trades, Cluster Search.

Section tip

Read Volume → Bid Ask → Delta → CVD in that order. Volume is activity; Bid Ask and Delta are aggression; CVD is the story over the session.
